This Too Shall Pass

This Too Shall Pass

By Deborah Sharma

I recite and repeat, “This too shall Pass”,
The fleetingly unreal cannot last,
Perishable experience certain to fade,
Then why do I continue to feel afraid?
Pinning my hopes on moments of pleasure,
Believing this is how I truly measure,
It seems so convincing to accept what I find,
My awareness in a disturbed state of mind,
Inundated with dramas of everyday strife,
Becoming entangled in the play of life,
Climbing upwards but never staying at the top,
Careening downwards in a depressing drop,
Rejecting ‘What is’ remains as unfulfilled desire,
Craving more of ‘What is’ of an extinguishable fire,
Birth, Pleasure, Pain, Death drives us to progress
Within a lifetime search beyond material process,
I cannot be stuck ‘like this’ forevermore,
When eternal blissful love rests before,
Though it feels like eternity in the here and now,
I acknowledge this expiring existence with a bow,
I respect Karmic lessons here to teach,
Helping me to look beyond minds reach,
Half-full or half-empty glass,
It is written, “This too shall Pass”.
