Let the Walls Crash Down
Let the Walls Crash down
By Deborah Sharma
Mother, Wife, Daughter,
Roles that I perform
but my purpose is Me.
My self-compassion is mistaken
for undeserved self-indulgence,
by a disapproving society screaming,
“How dare you put yourself first”
Still, I hesitantly open the lid
of my box
and gingerly peek outside
into a new world
that really isn’t new,
it’s the same world
filled with new possibilities.
I’m stripping off the labels,
bare skin melting with soft
heart,
I’m losing the layers,
Let the walls crash down around
me
and free me from my stale
confinement
blossoming into untethered
nourishment
